Adjudication Guidelines for Alderson Artisans Gallery

Applicants must reside within the Appalachian region, ranging roughly from West Virginia into Southern and Central Virginia.
Submit 5-8 images (CD, Photos
or weblink) of the work you would like to place in the Gallery and the retail prices (Please calculate a 35% commission as a rough estimate).
Submit a short biographical outline, along with the images, which should include your history as an artist, your relationship to the community of Alderson and if you are a professional or hobbyist.
There is a $10 application fee for each category the artist is applying for admittance.

After we have received your images, they will be reviewed. If we feel your work may be successful in the gallery, you might receive an invitation to submit 3-5 actual works for a full adjudication (if we need to see the actual items). The adjudication Committee is made up of the Director, the Adjudication Administrator, and two artists who already participate in the Alderson Artisans Art Gallery, who are familiar with your medium. After the adjudication is complete the applicant will receive a feedback sheet commenting on why the artist has or has not received an invitation to join the Gallery or if you are invited to have a temporary showing of your work. Show invitations are made when the committee approves of your work but we do not have the space to continually host it. If the applicant is not accepted, they may apply again during the next adjudication round. If we accept too many artists, we will create a waiting list until space becomes available. Preference will be given to “working artisans”.

We are a non-profit, cooperative gallery. Before applying, please be aware of the following structure and artisan options we currently operate under:
